My readers probably know how much I love a good Amish romance book.  What you probably didn't know was how much I love birds, too!  This book by Suzanne Woods Fisher has managed to combine two of my favorite things to create this one great book: A Season on the Wind.

My take:

As I mentioned earlier, this Amish romance book combines two of my favorite things, Amish stories, and birds!  The characters in the book are charming and I enjoyed this peaceful story with a powerful twist.  I enjoy a book that makes me slow down, relax, and think of things other than my busy life. 

The book tells about a bird that is blown off course and spotted in an area that it is not usually seen (this reminds me of a chapter in one of the Little House books where Pa finds what is thought to be a Great Auk).  Micah is becoming a well-known person when it comes to birds and when Ben Zook hears about the bird, he hires Micah to come with him.  The story revolves around Penny and Ben, where we watch them as they spend time together. 

The story is about community, the lives of the people, and their perspectives, like those of Penny, Micah, Ben, and more. I have always enjoyed learning about the culture of the Amish community and this book gives you much to think about.

The Author:

Suzanne Woods Fisher is the bestselling, award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction books about the Old Order Amish for Revell Books, host of the radio show-turned-blog Amish Wisdom, a columnist for Christian Post and Cooking & Such magazine.

Her interest in the Amish began with her grandfather, who was raised Plain. A theme in her books (her life!) is that you don’t have to “go Amish” to incorporate the principles of simple living.

Suzanne lives in California with her family and raises puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind. To her way of thinking, you just can't live too seriously when a puppy is tearing through your house with someone's underwear in its mouth.
