You can lose hours scrolling through the internet, without feeling refreshed or relaxed by the end of it. After the experiment, you may well find that you’re able to sleep better without the temptation to lie there staring at your phone, and you might even be more engaged with the outside world.

  1. Learn to Say “No”

As stated earlier, spare time is important. However, it can be easy to spend all of your time doing things for other people. Now, there’s nothing wrong with helping others. In fact, doing things for other people can be beneficial to your mental health, to an extent.

Some people take this a step too far and try to take the world’s problems on their shoulders. Even worse, family and friends may take all of this help for granted, inadvertently or otherwise. Taking responsibility for everything will eventually have negative effects on your mental, emotional, and physical health. It can also damage your relationships, causing you to resent your friends or family.

So, learn how to say “no”. If it feels selfish, then consider the fact that, if you get burnt out, then you won’t be able to help anyone. Treasure your spare time, and be strict with yourself and others if you have to be.
