I just finished the second book of the Three Sisters Island book by Suzanne Woods Fisher. Those of you who read my reviews often know that I review her books often, in the form of Amish fiction, my guilty pleasure. I wasn't sure how I would respond to a book that wasn't of that genre, but let me tell you, the book was very, very good!
The story takes place on Three Sister Island, a tiny island off the coast of Maine. The second book focuses on Maddie, one of the three daughters of Pete. She is a budding counselor and has opened in a new office in the small church. Just her luck to learn that the new pastor is Rick O'Shea, her childhood nemesis. The author weaves their story beautifully, doesn't take too long to get to the point, and allows us to feel the angst between these two characters.
There's also the story of Cam, another sister, who is engaged to be married. She's fully involved in a project that will change the lives of the islanders in a profound way, so she's not really focused on her wedding and marriage to Seth. Her son Connor is also feeling the neglect and has his own way of making his feelings known.
Last, there is Jessica, the sister who never seems to finish what she starts out to do. Right now she is a chef on the island, helping her friend Peg. After some trauma at her culinary school, she decides not to return, loses her palate, and really starts to disintegrate in front of her counselor sister.
The author does a magical job weaving all their stories, plus the story of their Dad, who has opened a summer camp on the island. He thought it was the perfect thing to do after his wife died, but is he really cut out for that sort of life?
Oh, and there is a really, really cute duck.
I received this book through NetGalley and was not required to give a positive review. I just did that on my own. If you are interested in purchasing this book, buying it here gives me a small commission!
