A healthier version of a homemade favorite!
Ingredients:
- 1 and 1/3 lbs 93% lean ground beef sirloin
- 1 tbsp Chicago steak seasoning
- 1 carrot, minced
- 1 medium onion, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 oz mushrooms, minced
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
Instructions:
How to cook Healthy Homemade Sloppy Joes
- 1. Fine chop all veggies and set aside.
- 2. Cook hamburger with steak seasoning, breaking up meat into small pieces.
- 3. Add veggies and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
- 4. Add rest of ingredients and cook, stirring to combine.
- 5. Cover, reduce heat to low and cook an additional five minutes.
- 6. Serve over toasted hamburger buns, a square of cornbread, over noodles or rice.
Notes:
You can substitute ground turkey for the beef with no adjustments. For lower sodium, use a low sodium all purpose seasoning mix.
