Growing Lettuces from Cuttings

Our challenge for the March Pinterest Challenge was to find a Spring Pin to try.  Every year I plant a salad bowl and it is a very successful project.  You can see my past Salad Bowls here, here, and here.  This year, I found a pin by DenGarden where she used the leftover bases from romaine lettuce and planted them. I loved the idea of using the plant more than once and so I gave this one a try!

First, prepare your garden spot.  I always use a large flower pot.  I clean up the pot, add new soil and some plant food.  Next, cut the bottoms off the lettuces.  Soak the bottoms in water overnight.  Then plant the bottoms in the soil. I cover the tiny plants and water, but not too much!

In about 2 days you will see baby leaves.  In about 12-18 days you will have lettuce you can harvest.

I will plant other lettuces by seed later in the spring.

In case you're new to the blog, the purpose of the Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month's challenge is about Spring Projects with a focus on Easter and Gardening.
