I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This beautiful, hard-cover book is a delight to own. It is full of beautiful photos, touching personal stories and interesting recipes, one which I have adjusted to my own personal likes. The book shows how immigration influences our food culture in the United States. My own lineage is Irish, and I know how the foods I ate growing up were a blend of Irish American cooking.
While "cookbook" is certainly ONE of its attributes, it is also a biography, where chefs share their personal stories including immigration and their roads to cooking. These stories are every bit as fascinating as the recipes themselves.
I did find it challenging to get ingredients that are mentioned in some of the recipes. Don't plan on cooking a dish from here without carefully finding everything you need. Thank you, Amazon, for having most of the unique ingredients!
Here is a recipe from Chef Simone Tong that I tried. Simple ingredients but a fabulous, deep flavor. I urge you to pick up a copy of this book as a gift to yourself or to someone you really like.
