We do like to dress them up in costume, just for us, and this year we found these cute costumes for just $8 each. As you can tell, that's not a highlight of the year for them, either. However, they do love their chewy.com treats that we gave them this fall, these Blue Buffalo Halloween Boo Bars Mummy Morsels with Pumpkin and Cinnamon. Sounds good enough to snack on!
With Boo Bars, Tru and Wilson can have a healthy treat when everyone else is snacking on candy corn. They are crunchy and crumbly and the dogs do love them. The ingredients include wholesome foods like pumpkin, carrots, barley, oatmeal, flaxseed and cinnamon.
The benefits that I love include no corn or wheat or soy. Another big benefit: Wilson will happy go kennel on command for one of these yummy treats!
I'd like pass on some of my wisdom (after 40 years of pet owning) for Halloween night.
- Candy isn't for dogs, especially chocolate. Yep, they will beg for it and even eat it willingly but you are going to see it again and it's not too pleasant.
- Dogs will eat glow sticks. Again, not so pleasant and no, the poop doesn't glow.
- Costumes are fun for the humans. We have to beg our dogs to leave them on. They do tolerate our ooohs and aaahs for a few minutes. We don't want to stress them out, so we don't overdo it. We do introduce the costume slowly and give a lot of love and some treats at the end of the ordeal.
- If your dogs bark at the doorbell, you may want to kennel them for the night. The constant ringing will add more stress and no one needs that.
Have a great Halloween with your dogs and cats!
