National S'Mores Day!

roasting a marshmallow
Today is National S'Mores Day!

Have you seen the pre-packaged s'mores kits that are available at the stores these days?  Not for me.
Have you seen the s'more makers?  Again, not for me.

S'mores are the quintessential summer treat.  Made for campfires and sitting around and eating the gooey goodness.  How do you make yours?

Our favorite way is to toast marshmallows black.  I mean, burnt to a crisp.  I should say, that's my way because Bob puts a perfect toast on his, and waits long enough for the inside of the marshmallow to be perfectly melted.

My friend Jodi sent me some wonderful marshmallows.  They are called Campfire Marshmallows and they are huge.  She lives in Massachusetts and sent them to me because I couldn't find them here.

Next I put Ghiradelli dark chocolate chips on a square of graham cracker.  I zap it in the microwave to soften the chips.  Then I place the marshmallow on top of the chocolate and another square of graham cracker on top of the marshmallow.  Then you bite into the goodness.  Getting sticky is part of the fun!

I have a couple of variations... one is to put a Reeses cup on the graham cracker, the hot marshmallow on top of the Reeses cup and then another graham cracker.  RICH but amazingly good.

  1. I'm not sure why, but I'm not the biggest fan of smores. I love each individual component but maybe all together they are far to rich for me... I just don't know.

Anywho - If I do find myself craving smores I use CHOCOLATE graham cracker, burnt black marshmallows, and those small Hershey bars.

That fire pic is not helping... I am itching to get outside and start our season of bonfires.
